Global Mission Group Quiz & Auction Night
The Global Mission Group Quiz is on 22 November from 7pm in the church hall. Keep this date free! Tickets are available after the service... Funds raised will go toward HIV/AIDS education in Papua New Guinea. This year we're also having an auction of awesome prizes half-way through the quiz. We're also needing people to help sell a table of tickets (8 people) on our behalf. Catch a mission group person after the service or call Dan on 021 042 8888 for tickets or to offer help.
More info is available in this flyer [180KB PDF]
Women’s Group
The Women’s Group meets again this Tuesday in the Vicarage, 98 Upland Road. There will be the usual good cooking but also surprises. Progress has been slow on the trip to the Orthodox church so, apart from bible study and catching up, we will be reviewing alternative dates for our Wairarapa trip.
Global Mission Group Prayer Breakfast
On every first Tuesday of the month. Croissant, coffee, tea, fruit and juice are on offer from 7am. Prayer starts at 7:15 (latest) and we guarantee to get you to anywhere in the CBD by 8am. Come and pray for the global work of our church and mission partners.
Parish Bible Study
The Parish Bible Study continues each Wednesday evening. Gather at 5:45pm for a light meal followed by study from 6:30 to 8pm. Suggested donation for the meal $5 waged, $3 unwaged. This week we wrap up our series on presenting the Gospel. Ideas for future studies will be decide so come along to have your say. Meantime, Copies of Daily Bread bible reading notes are available in the church foyer. Take one if you haven’t already.
Martin & Lily Emo
Some of you will remember Lily and Martin Emo from when they spoke to us earlier this year. Martin and Lily were both previously involved with AngChap and the early days of our Substance congregation. After a year of study at BCNZ, they are now to be CMS Mission Partners and are departing for Nicaragua in Jan 2009 to work with the Council Of Protestant Churches of Nicaragua (CEPAD). Lily will be working in design and photography and Martin will be working in high school education.
Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner?

Saint Mic’s 100 years birthday party, Sept 2007
Those of you who missed out on Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner? Contact Loren (021 116 5551), or the Vicar for more details. There have been great reports from many about this initiative. This will be the last round of dinners parties for the year.
Tim McKenzie for priest
Notice is here given that Timothy McKenzie of the Parish of Kelburn and Victoria University intends to offer himself as a candidate for the order of Priesthood at the ensuing ordination on 22 November 2008. If anyone knows any reason or impediment why Timothy McKenzie should not be ordained, he or she is asked to notify the Bishop of Wellington. Do keep Tim and Mel in your prayers as Tim prepares for ordination and they begin to get ready to move for further study in Auckland.
Ramsey House redevelopment
Parishioners will be pleased to know good progress is being made on the Ramsey House redevelopment. So far construction is running on time. Interviews will commence soon for 2009 flatters. The income stream generated from this facility will off-set present cost of renting the Vicarage. It will also mean more students involved in St. Mics for the coming year. Do pray we get the right people.
Parish IT
As part of the upgrade of our parish IT capacity, our web site is being migrated to a new server in preparation for the redesigned site being launched soon. This will allow much more information about the parish to be posted more easily. At the same time new email addresses are being created for different staff and web based texting will be introduced in the new year. This will increase efficiency through better integration both with the Chaplaincy ministry and between parish staff. It will also allow for both privacy and better sharing of selected information as the ministry team grows. Keep an eye out on the back page of the pewsheet for these changes. Meantime, old addresses continue to work along with the new ones.
Give It Up! campaign
"This year the government announced tax cuts for the first time in years. They came into effect on October 1st. But what will we do with that extra money in our bank account?..." (Anglican Social Justice Commission web site) Before you get too used to that extra cash, check out the Give It Up! campaign kicked off by our own Matt Bartlett.
Visit from Bishop Tom

We had a joint service with other congregations on 5 October, on which we celebrated a delayed St. Michael and All Angels Day. Bishop Tom visited to do the confirmations of four people.
SMK photo essay
Some will remember Craig Thompson who completed a photographic essay of life in St. Mic’s for our Centennial year. Some of Craig’s photos are used in our liturgy booklets, and, more recently, parish publicity packs. Craig expects to complete two hand produced books of the essay in time for this year’s St. Michael’s Day. It is planned to have one of these deposited in the National Archive and retain the other in the parish.
Assistance required
Help is needed to enter data into a web-based texting programme. This will enable both the Chaplaincy and the parish to more easily and efficiently let people know of upcoming events that may interest them, contact people on rosters or involved in organising events etc. Training will be given but if you have only modest computer literacy this would be well within your abilities. Probably eight hours or less will be needed to complete the task. Let the Vicar know if you are interested in doing this.
Christ & Caesar
Dr Jim Skillen spoke at St Michael’s on Sunday 7 September. You
can listen to an interview with him on Chris Laidlaw’s National Radio show [streaming audio].
